Located on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Cumberland Knob, Mile 218.6.(W80 55 06.3;N36 32 30.6; Elev 2807ft)   This was the site where construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway was started in 1935. It was the first recreation area to be opened to the public, and is still a favorite destination for both locals and visitors. The mixture of lush woodlands and open fields, housing a variety of birds and other wildlife, .......

Miss Eleanor J. Scott, 62 of 221 Picadilly Dr., expired Tuesday Sept 14,1999 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice home following a period of declining health. She was born January 31, 1937 in Pittsburgh, Pa. To Charles E. Scott and Hazel Gray Scott. Miss Scott was graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Nursing School with a B.S. in nursing. She became the directory of Operating Rooms at the Ohio State University Hospital. She then came to N. C. Baptist Hospital as Directory of Operating Rooms. Her last work was with /Salem Family Practice from which she retired due to her health. She is survived by her brother, James W. Scott and his wife, Mary of Newark, Ohio a nephew, Greg G. Scott of Wilmington; a niece, Misty Scott of Chicago, Ill; and a very special friend and former colleague, Mary Van Poole of Salisbury. A memorial service celebrating Miss Scott’s life will be held Saturday evening at Vogler and sons Reynolda Rd. Chapel at 7:00. Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the American Diabetes Assoc., Medical Center Blvd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27157m or to the American Hearth Assoc., 1386-A Westgate Center De., Winston-Salem,, N.C. 27103
